This was one of the most oddest promotions for a film I've ever seen. For those of you non-pretentious film scholars who may have seen '2001' know how slow & boring of a film it is. Neat visuals, I do agree that Kubrick was the zenith in mixing beautiful visuals into his works, but even as a kid I saw this on a VHS & had to fast forward through all the sequences of slow walking maids in space. Lots of LSD was thrown around in the 60's, I'd like to know whose idea it was to give LSD to the person in charge of marketing. I understand the need to tap a demographic by buying up space from a company willing to hawk their own product along with hawking some current film, fast food restaurants still do it today. Howard Jhonson, a hotel company, hawking '2001: A Space Oddessy'? It's like if 'Universal Studios' made a cross promotion with 'Brazil', the Terry Gilliam film. ....You know, that might not be a bad idea, get abducted by faceless authorites, get saved by duct terrorist Robert DeNiro, only to find out it was all a dream & you've just been lobotomized. Fun for the whole family! Well, here's the comic/ kid's menu form Howard Johnson at it's most weirdest. '2001' isn't a film I'd say is innapropriate for children, but it isn't necessarily a kids film. The characters in this comic make the film seem more exciting & fun than it actually is. Enjoy!
