And now for our negative review I call the ‘Two Minutes Hate’.
This is a segment in which we give a negative review to something which truly sucks.

Interstellar: The Novelization (2014)

Well then, the novelization is there to suit your need to read films. Yes, you can read a movie. Noted, every novelization involves some big differences from what is written on the page to what is shown on screen. Basically that is because the writers of these books use an early draft of the script as reference to write the book. This usually ends up in the book being different than the final cut of the film. Not to segway into another topic, but the novelization of ‘Gremlins’ explains the origin of Mugwai as it being an alien from a coke induced planet, it changes the way you look at the Mogwai after reading the novelization. So I was fully aware that whatever I was reading in this book would not reflect the film.
Without going too deep, this is the story about Cooper, a former astronaut who works at his farm with his daughter, grandpa & son. They live in an earth that has run out of food & the sun has pretty much given up. So during a dust storm, Cooper & his daughter Murphy find coordinates that were formed by the small grains of dust. What could have caused this strange phenomena? The answer Cooper gives: it was gravity. Yup! Gravity, the uncle we all wished we have. So it becomes apparent that the coordinates lead to somewhere which gives Cooper the idea to see where the directions lead. They lead to a top secret base in the middle of nowhere where Dr.Brand, a scientist part of NASA, is building a rocket ship in a plan to drop a population bomb in a distant planet. If NASA could build a population bomb & a rocket ship while everyone was pretty much starving & dying from hunger, then why didn’t they build a food bomb? Space ships & population bombs carrying miniature fetuses aren’t really time sensitive or cost effective. STUPID! So then Cooper goes to space, despite his daughter’s dissaproval, & he’s in space in which they sleep for some years, only to wake up & go into a black hole which costs more years & go into a planet to find a surviving astronaut which causes more years in space. While they’re at it, Murphy grows into a bitter old woman who then decides to be an astronaut for no reason. Cooper & his mates find the missing astronaut to be fine & alive, until he betrays them because in space, people can still be dicks. So the missing astronaut is gotten rid of, Cooper & Brand (Dr.Brand’s daughter. They never made it clear of her real name) have enough fuel to get to the planet they’re supposed to plant their population bomb in. So with the power of science they use their scouting ships & inertia to launch the ship into the planet. Was there a reason why they needed to sacrifice the robot & Cooper? I don’t know, Nolan’s stupidity. So Cooper is floating into a black hole which doesn’t kill him, but gives him visions of his past (2001 much?) & the book ends with Cooper in a space station hospital in which he learns his daughter is in suspended animation.
This was pretty pointless, & a big F.U to both science fiction & science fact. It raises too many questions, everyone is not likable, some character’s decisions are ‘motiveless,’ the action is soo vaguely written (or I suck at reading, one or the other) & nothing is explained in the long run. Just because you leave everything to a mystery does not mean you are an intelligent writer. Sure, there are some cases where it works brilliantly, but when you leave a huge number of questions unanswered, then you are a lazy writer.  It may or may not perfectly represent the film, but it was a trip to pretentiousness & stupidity. Will I review the film, maybe.
Now that was a two minutes hate on 'Interstellar: The Novelization'.
