That's all for this installment of Blogbabble.
Tune in next time.
That should be all, but I know you wanna read about all the fucked up bullshit happening. It's been overdue on my part, excuse the inactivity. I really don't know where to start with this because it's all fucked up. I guess I'll start with the C-word here...
I'd rather call the virus 'Cronovirus' but that does sound a little too scary so I'll just go with Coronavirus. If it were up to me I would call it the Craggy Sickness just to break the tension.
Coronavirus. I'm sure many of us here never thought we'd live through a pandemic of such proportions. Then again I grew up hearing about ebola & no, The Simpsons did not predict Ebola as much as the internet wants to say they predicted it. Just because something hasn't been talked about for a while & was later rediscovered doesn't mean that those few sources that mentioned it predicted it. That whole “Cheech & Chong predicted the word 'Simp' because they used it in 'Earache in my Eye'.” ordeal was pathetic.
What next? If I say 'I reckon' in a phrase & later on that phrase becomes rediscovered am I some prophet who predicted that phrase? I ain't predicted shit!
Back to Coronavirus here, I lived through so-called 'Viral Outbreaks' in my time. Well I can't call them pandemics because they never really escalated to that global scale like Corona. The one that still gives me a smile on my face would be the Bird Flu. Now I'm not saying that flu was some laughing matter, because it wasn't. What makes me laugh about that was the response of it. This was making the rounds on the nightly news, there were headlines & the ABC network made a TV movie on it. You heard that right, in 2006 there was a TV movie called 'Fatal Contact: Bird Flu in America'!!! Speaking of Cheech & Chong, Stacey Keach was in this TV movie. Then there was the Swine Flu, now this one hit kinda close to some of us because this happened during summer break & upon returning back to school we had to get immunizations before we were gained access to school. Of course you had the fringe minority that opposed immunizations, this was that same time we had that bullshit of “Immunizations cause autism” that all these assholes were screeching about. If you thought Coronavirus wouldn't be as crazy as it got, don't sweat it because I thought the same shit too. Though this was waaaaaaaaay before any of our time (1918 to be exact), Spanish Flu (And I'm using that term because it's the only one I know) was the last crazy pandemic of the same scale that ravaged this earth.
Time to get spooky here. Shit hit the fan quick. Why aren't these anti-mask cunts blaming our government? Everyone knew what was going on across the world & yet our government just let it reach our shores knowing very well this could benefit them if a couple thousand get infected across each state. Of course our government would get a kick out of Corona, because it makes the people in charge seem like they know what they're doing & makes the morons validated because whatever they say will sound like real examples everyone should follow! Then of course these people in charge don't understand science & think it's some voodoo ritual ceremony. These are the same idiots that constantly questioned Mark Zuckerberg about how the internet works. Let's take this shit all the way back, this is the same government that let the attack on Pearl Harbor happen because why not? We need an excuse to bomb some Tojo asses, right? It also doesn't help that this year is an election year. I won't call conspiracy theory on what I'm gonna say because with all the voter supression that occurred before, Gerrymandering & Voter ID shit it's clear they want every last vote out of the way to keep their cronies in power. How is voting going to work now with all these health guidelines such as social distancing & wearing masks? I'd like to say the better alternative is mail-in votes but at this point in the game everyone knows you may as well piss away your vote, then fire a shotgun at your genitals. So if you voted democrat last election you're only going to get a democrat only ballot as opposed to the one at the voting polls that include all candidates. We got people bitching about wearing masks, I can't see anything positive out of how voters will react to waiting in long lines just to vote for some candidate that will screw them over in the long run.
I swear these anti-maskers aren't dying fast enough. Don't care how fucked up that makes me sound, they need to learn first hand that they're the reason this shit hasn't been contained sooner. What I also don't get is they're anti-mask, but they're also anti-test because they say they're microchipping people with these coronavirus tests. Then wear the fucking mask if you don't want to be microchipped you fucking idiots. Oh but then wearing a mask is some fucking conspiracy where the masks people are selling contain some chemical bullshit.
I know I used the word 'First World Problem Motherfuckers' & I know with what I'm gonna bitch about is temporary BS that can be saved for another time but I too am saddened by the closings of places that weren't essential. This brings me to another topic, how fucking bullshit essential places are treating their workers during this pandemic. You would think managerial staff would at least take this shit serious & try to, I don't know, try to make it their duty to keep their workers safe the same way they continuously push their non-OSHA enforced safety procedures. You heard that right, non-OSHA enforced procedures because it's not about keeping workers safe it's about making it easier to fire people just so they can micromanage the workplace without making it look obvious. Oh you weren't following the yellow line despite there being a lack of forklift traffic? Well you're fired because you violated safety measure despite it being safe. They're just trying to keep people from getting injured & filing worker's comp. Now that doesn't sound like a bad thing, I'd do the same if I was the owner of industry, but this constant punishment for minor shit is more demoralizing than protective. Ever since news outlets got wind of the pandemic & ever since their sales have been affected they decided to make stupid decisions to the point where it's almost they went (And I know some of you hate it when I say this but fuck it, I'll say it anyway) FULL RETARD. Seemed like it was a weekly occurance that Gov. Gavin Newsom was constantly on TV, or being streamed online, addressing cerfews & laws which doesn't make sense. If everything is locked up & closed, why enforce a cerfew? All this shit did was make all of us who worked essential jobs nervous as fuck. I kid you not I was scared the cops would pull us over just to fuck with us out of bullshit. Luckily it didn't come to that, but then comes the BLM riots & that day stressed me out because all of us at work heard about this lockdown last minute, while we were at work! These are the kind of morons we I had to deal with. Where I was going with this is these cerfews were enforced & as a dumbass way of insuring a false sense of security. These bastards at work printed out deskjet printed letters from 'Deh SEE-EEE-OH' saying how we should be granted access to go to & from work because we're essential workers with this printed sheet of paper that puts Donald Trump's shitty signature to shame. So then Gavin Newsome also addressed plans for businesses to co-opt new health procedures such as providing masks, hand sanitizer & all that jazz. By now most of you have seen UPS wear their brand of masks. Alot of businesses have distributed masks with their brand on it. So at my job these motherfuckers said they bought masks & have to (In their words) “Train management on how to handle the masks”. I wish I were kidding. You can tell this was an obvious lie. Then at the last minute management did not want to dispense masks because they wanted us, THE WORKERS, to practice social distancing. So rather than distribute masks to workers so they can work in peace, they decided to pull the social distancing card. Even though the late shift doesn't have to deal with costumers, it's still a pathetic excuse as to why we couldn't receive masks sooner & further proof these motherfuckers don't know how to deal with anything. Let's say there wasn't a pandemic but a terrorist bombing of epic proportions or a natural disaster? All this proves to me is that you motherfuckers in corporate/management can't get your fucking heads out of your ass & actually see what's going on around you! They aren't capable of making decisions for themselves. I could go on & on with the fuckery I had to deal with before & after this pandemic. I might do a blogababble entry on it.
In times like this, fuck it, everytime I don't want to hear the phrase “You should be glad you even have a job.” Of course that translates to “Quit bitching you fucking peon!” I doubt independent businesses gotta deal with this bullshit, or maybe they do.
If you work at a mom & pop/independently founded company, I would love to hear from you guys. I'd love to hear how you are dealing with working during a pandemic.
To end this topic, these past months have taught me that if we ever live through a zombie epidemic then we'd all be screwed. Not because the zombies are overpowered or anything, but because there would be a loud ass minority that would turn the zombie issue into political.
“I'm not going to stay at home because of some dead coochie monsters! I need my hair did!!!” Then the zombies bite off the cliterouses of the men & women, thus giving the zombie outbreak its longevity.
A George Romero Film.
Now let's move to another fucked up thing that happened, George Floyd & maybe I'm sounding like a conspiracy theorist but this all felt too planned. What I mean by this is the reporting of this felt to planned. Seems like whenever someone wants to divert attention from something they'll do something that will receive more notoriety in the press than something else that is either equally or more messed up. Going back to Coronavirus for a bit here, cases nationwide were at a standstill. The percentage of cases wasn't lowering or decreasing, they were pretty flat. Then came the news of cops murdering George Floyd & once those protests happened cases began to rise. I'm gonna say it, if it wasn't for these protests we could have had a better grasp of the virus than we do now. Then again I can see being silent over yet another dead black man should not be ignored, along with Beonna Taylor. That one was kinda suspicious to me because none of the mainstream media is talked about Breonna Taylor until recently. Like all people I heard about this case through Twitter, can you believe it? Anyway all this caused a riot, especially here in LA which for some felt like deja vu. Korean shop owners with gats above their shops, the police going all cowboy wild west with their brutality. One of the most shocking things I've seen of all this was in a FOX 11's live broadcast when cops came into the scene where a couple of looters were attempting to loot a local business. Rather than use their visual context clues & ask questions, they decide “Hey look, black people. They must be the looters. Arrest them!” The bit that angered me was when these cops were shown on camera basically using their ignorance as a defense mechanism. The only way I can describe it was these cops were basically trying to silence the truth! It's like playing Street Fighter with someone & the other person decides to reset the console just because you were kicking their ass & they sit there thinking “I did nothing wrong. You're more at fault. You didn't buy the 'Turbo' edition of the game.”
See for yourself: https://www.foxla.com/video/690433
This whole thing reminded me that ignorance has become weaponized & this shit needs to stop.
All of social media began to debate if rioting was good or not, but everyone failed to ask if there's any signs of well placed piles of bricks. It's been proven that law enforcement has been sending out undercover narcs to these protests. That 'American Dad' episode wasn't too far off from the truth. We're all deadass sure they purposefully sent them out to disrupt an otherwise peaceful protest. Then again it can be antifa being antifa telling the peaceful BLM protesters that the time for peace has passed & it's time for brutal resistance. To all of you kids reading this (Doubtful but hopeful here) there were two sides of the civil rights movement. You had Martin Luther King Jr taking a note from Ghandi's book & telling the black community to resist without violence, but at the same time you also had Malcom X along with the Black Panthers telling the sane community to arm themselves because shit got real.
Despite all the fucked up shit we've seen from this, I'm at least glad that there is a dialogue on race relations going on & people are pretty much tired of this constant pandering that continues to take place every single time. Tou had all these shows, specifically cartoons, that decided to toss out this false sense of progression by announcing stuff like how now African American characters will no longer be voiced by white actors or any other ethnic character won't be voiced by a white voice actor or actress. I felt the response people had was very true.
“That's cool and all that you've come to that conclusion, but that's not going to erase the real racism most of us face.”
Then again that announcement came from two cartoons nobody & I MEAN NOBODY gives a flying fuck about anymore. Family Guy & The Simpsons. Does anyone watch Family Guy for entertainment anymore? Most of the people who watch Family Guy now do it to get mad or use that as fodder for their cartoon reviewer youtube show! You know those cartoon reviewers, Mr.Enter, LS Mark, my favorite being Rebel Taxi. So the voice of Cleveland Brown is a white guy & guess what? Nobody cares because 1.) Nobody has enjoyed Family Guy since 2005 & 2.) Nobody liked Cleveland Brown & his solo show sucked balls. Then for some reason 'The Simpsons' producers decided to remind everyone once again that Hank Azaria will no longer voice Apu? Uh, didn't we already go through this? Oh yeah, we did when that one hipster comedian had that documentary that aired on that wannabe 'Comedy Centeral' channel (Tru TV). That documentary? Whatever it was the title was 'The Problem With Apu'. This one pisses me off because it seems like the producers are doing it to gain attention from their shitty show. They see their neilsen ratings will increase despite their show being a dead ass horse. Nobody cares because it still doesn't fix the systemic racism of not just society, but the American job industry & that includes Hollywood. Sure you can have your actors & actress star in movies saying “Racism is bad.” yadda yadda yadda, but at the end of the day you'll still have executives & money men that fund these films deciding that a movie about two sudanese immigrants won't sell, unless you add pale ass Gwenyth Paltro. That happened, but I don't think it was Gwenyth Paltro. I think it was Drew Berrymore, don't know all I know it was some white blonde gal.
As I write this not only is the BLM movement still going on in, of all places, Portland Oregon but there was a walkout that happened. Like I said countless times before, Money Talks and Bullshit Walks. Not only is the walkout to protest police brutality, but it's also to protest these almost lax Coronavirus precautions that asshole management enforces. Going back to Corona for a bit (I should of just mixed Corona & BLM in one paragraph here) because let's admit it most of the people working from home, in quarantine & enforcing bullshit policies aren't white. I keep hearing & seeing the headlines “People of color are more at risk.” and they try to sell that headline as if Coronavirus is also racist & is out to get anyone with a little extra melanin. It's mostly a class thing, but race has to be accounted for in this instance, because motherfuckers on top don't give a fuck about the safety of their workers. Don't know how that turned out.
I mentioned Portland, the shit going on in Portland is fucking scary. Protesters getting kidnapped in unmarked vans. Yes, that shit is really happening & it looks like something out of a fucking movie, a horror movie. I hate to be scary & say shit that will give people mad anxiety, but I should say this once & I hope to dear god this doesn't come true. We're on the verge of another Kent State type situation. Hey, we already got Rodney King II: The Squeakquel & I'm not trying to sound funny.
I forgot to mention but here in LA someone lynched an African American man. In LA, IN 2020 are you fucking shitting me?!! LA, the so-called 'PROGRESIVE' green state where an African American man got lynched on a pine tree! That disturbed me & the left wonders why people are buying guns & filing out background checks, because people are really fucking scared. Fuck off 'Pacific Coast Knights of the KKK'.
One thing I wish people would get out of this is to generalize the positive message of BLM. What I mean by this is I'm sick & tired of every time there's civil unrest the outcome is never what we think it will be. The overall general message is lost on the people on both sides who should learn. I'm sure we all heard people try to say 'All Lives Matter' or the stupid as fuck 'Blue Lives Matter'. So there's already an inherent hipocracy with ALM because not only is that just misunderstanding the point of BLM, but also at the same time it's easy to say ALM while at the same time shrugging off homeless people who ask for spare change. The genreal point should be (I doubt any of you will correct me for this) QUIT BEING RACIST FUCKS. Let's say the people get only the surface part of the message across. You know for damn sure that percent of racist people will think “You know what, Black Lives Do Matter....but you know who doesn't matter? Those filty wet shins & goobers. Let's shift our hate to them now!” I just hate this bullshit I see of people thinking racism is just black & white. How about stop being demeaning towards everyone who isn't the same as you? Simple as that!
I can't say this is a COVID matter here, but for some reason here in LA (& I'm assuming in other places there's a Mexican population) simple humble people are being attacked by black youths. This all happened before the George Floyd news & the BLM protests. That's why I believe this is all a conspiracy to divide and conquer. Conspiracy theory: The assholes used to beat up these older ice cream vendors/Eloteros were paid to use violence against people who weren't doing anything wrong. The shit I love is these assholes are a minority who don't represent the majority. In turn the BLM movement saw these videos & of course they don't approve of this. They too are disappointed of these assholes. So yeah, government. Nice try, we're not going to have a race war.
Tolerance should not be met with on a case by case basis. I'm tired of this case by case crap with being descent fucking people. There was one asshole in high school who said shit like “We had to deal with slavery. You guys haven't deal with anything that bad yet.” Are we really using ancestral adversity like a deck of fucking Yu-GiOh cards?
“You summoned one 'Slavery' and in turn I use the current 'Children caged in ICE institutions' here. Uh oh, you activated my 'Hiroshima Bombing' card!!!”
I think I said all that I needed to be said with these current affairs here. Black lives do matter, know the cause deeper than just the name.
And that's it for Current affairs.
I think now's a good time for a music break.
Parents, give your kids the talk early on or else you'll end up with a case where your kid will be full of undiagnosed anxieties & think mom is giving birth to an alien baby that will eat everyone's faces off or worse, she'll pass away during childbirth. That was my mindset back in the day. I thought my mom was gonna give birth to an alien baby. I was half right. So of course me & my older sister had to stay at my aunt's place while my mom was amping up to give birth that week. As a selling point for me to not feel too upset my aunt was telling me we're going to watch a Batman movie. She didn't say which batman film, but at that time I was mostly familiar with the Tim Burton Batman. The first Batman movie I saw was 'Batman Returns' and on TV you also had not just Batman TAS still running but you also had those OnStar commercials that used that Burton aesthetic.
It wouldn't be until later when I see more of his other films like 'Flatliners' or 'The incredible Shrinking Woman' (I highly recommend you watch Incredible Shrinking Woman. It's such a fun movie with Lily Tomlin) but I'll add his name to the list of people who really shaped my taste in cinema, art &...let's just say along with Michelle Phfeifer as Catwoman, also add in Uma Therman as Poison Ivy. My older sister would say her awakening happened when she saw Chris O'Donnel as Robin. I don't hate on the homoerotic imagery of those movies, instead they make me smile maniacally. I can tell you some straight people watched these movies & were just sweating bullets. I fucking love when that happens. He will be truly missed. A talent if I ever saw one.
PS: Did you know Joel Schumacer also wrote the screenplays for 'Car Wash' and the Donna Summer 'The Wiz' movie?
So a lot of movies that were in production have ceased because of everything that's happening. So as of recent most of the not so great movies that studios funded are quietly being sold as rentals through OnDemand places like Google Playstore & all that. Now there is no excuse to miss a movie that comes out. The problem for me is nothing coming out now is worth the price of a rental, let alone the $30 Disney wants me to pay to see bullshit 'Mulan'. I might try to watch the new 'Bill & Ted' movie that will come out on September 1st, but I gotta be honest that first trailer was lame. I'll give it a chance, but reading the synopsis kinda fills me with dread. Alot of the high profile movies coming to OnDemand services are lame, lamer than usual. I wasn't all too excited for that newly animated Scooby Doo movie. And who in fuck was excited for 'Trollz: World Tour', besides moms begging for something that will occupy their loud ass messy kids! Also quit trying to make me get hyped for 'Tennet', because I'm not. I'm annoyed by Christopher Nolan now, The man tries to elevate his material by refusing to call them what they really are.
“Batman Begins is not a superhero movie. It's a masked spectacle.”
IT'S A FUCKING SUPERHERO MOVIE YOU DUMBASS!!
Don't get me started on Dark Knight Rises, that eye rolling scene of the castradi singing the star spangled banner while it quickly cut back to policment looking for bombs. That was cliched as fuck. The one flick I was curious about but production's been halted would be the Robert Pattinson Batman movie. I'll fucking accept him as Batman if he doesn't do that stupid as hell death metal voice that Ben Affleck & Christian Bale did. I get it, this is the voice that's strikes 'fear' into the hearts of criminals. I don't see it, it just sounds like they're tying so hard to be the lead vocalist for Bathory & in turn the lead singers to death metal bands sound like Cookie Monster.
Though this year I canceled the annual bitching, moaning & praising of upcoming movies (I shit you not, I did not predict this!!!!), I should at least talk about the delayed productions Hollywood had in store for us.
MacBeth: By Joel Cohen starring Denzel Washington & Frances McDormand. Okay, this one I have to see. There hasn't been a Joel & Ethan Cohen movie I have not liked. I've liked most of their output, especially 'The Hudsucker Proxy'.
Avatar 2 & 3: So they're really going with this? I'll be honest when the first flick came out in 2009 I was pretty hyped & dug it as a moronic teenager, that was until people started asking me 'what was the plot?' and 'who were the characters?' I haven't had a clue.
Now I haven't seen the BluRay directors cut. Believe me, James Cameron has a way of making good films that nobody sees theatrically because his theatrical cuts mostly blow ass. There are exceptions (Terminator & True Lies) but then you have cases like 'The Abyss' where the theatrical cut is horrible, but the director's cut that was released on DVD (& is shown on cable) is far superior.
I've yet to rewatch the film to see if it's really an overhyped movie or a flick that never had the chance. So, uh. Avatar, are you a fan?
The Last Duel: Says here it's a Ridley Scott film, which means this might be a sequel to his early film 'The Duelist', or maybe it's its own thing. The only details of this film shown here are it's set in Ireland.
Nightmare Alley: A Guillmero Del Toro movie remake with Bradley Cooper & Rooney Mara. I have yet to watch 'Shape of Water'.
Shrunk: So it's going to be a remake of 'Honey I Shrunk The Kids'. The original film was amazing in the fact that it sold itself as a jaunty adventure for kids. The film is pretty dark & scary, you get a baby ant death & I remember the scorpion creeping the hell out of me as a young kid. I'm sure they're going to ease off on scaring the kids with this one. The only reason this will be a mandatory viewing for me is for one person only, Rick FUCKING Moranis is coming back. I'm not spending money on this because it's disney, I'm doing it for Moranis. In my home we worship two acting dieties, Rick Moranis & Nicolas Cage as Cameron Poe!
Home Alone: A reboot made for Disney+. Yeah I don't care.
I'll admit I used to love the first two Home Alone movies as a kid. That third one was a cringey mess. I guess I've outgrown Home Alone, sad to say. I want the Home Alone movie where it's a 15 minute film of Kevin firing an actual gun at Harry & Marv. Shotgun to the dick!!!!
Cinderella: Oh good god! Another Cinderella?
It was already enough when Brandy did her remake for the Disney Channel. There is no need for yet another Cinderella, unless there's really a generation of people who don't know how the story goes. Well let me give you poor souls a quick spoiler.
Prince Charming claps Cinderella cheeks!
Shrine: A Kevin Hart/Woody Harrelson movie. Oh my god, can we stop giving Kevin Hart acting roles? Dude, go back to doing stand-up.
I'm sorry, sounds mean but the man is an eyesore, earsore....His movie roles are annoying! Every movie he's in he's playing the overly cocky, short and loud motherfucker who reminds me of these short motherfuckers from middle school who thought being loud & annoying was a personality trait. And to twist that knife from the bitch called life, those are the guys who managed to get girlfriends in high school! Life is woe, moving on.
Okay, back to Kevin Hart here.
Look dude, Kevin, if you're reading this (Hahahahaha!!!) do standup again. The movies are annoying & I'm not blaming you personally. I blame the scripts & your bad decisions in agreeing to doing those scripts. Every single role he did is on par with every single character both Martin Lawrence & Omar Epps did in the 2000's. Everyone makes bad decisions, so don't hate yourself too much.
Jurassic World: Dominion: You know what, just scrap the whole idea. Remove the dinosaurs, remove Chris Pratt...or you know what include Chris Pratt but also include Bryce Dallas Howard and the whole thing should be 3 hours of Chris Pratt & Bryce Dallas Howard recreating the Bettie Page & Tempest Storm 'Teaserama' segement where she dresses up Chris Pratt in that black dress.
We'd all flock to that!
Why aren't these characters learning anything? 1.) Quit going to that fucking park & messing with those dinosaurs! Just recently there's a new Netflix animated show on Jurassic Park with these kids hanging around the park & I'm just sitting there thinking “Oh good god, this again.”
This is worse than how the 'Alien' franchise continuously reiterates the same bullshit. Stupid white people go to a planet they know is dangerous & now they're running around a spaceship being chased by the Xenomorph. Jurassic Park, they constantly resurrect the bad dinosaurs. Just stop already.
I still say we need a Bryce Dallas Howard/Chris Pratt Teaserama.
So sounds like it's going to be a sequel which means both 'Reloaded' and 'Revolutions' will still be in continuity. Eh. Is this franchise worth saving? I'll admit I dug the first flick, Animatrix was cool but I can't tell you where the story goes after that. All I know is everything wraps itself up in 'Revolutions' with robot machine gun people shooting those squid like sentinels. The whole thing ends with a rainbow sky in the matrix & the Oracale saying something like “There's peace now. Movie's over, go home.” So the sentinels aren't dead or is there some worse threat going on now? So all the Agent Smiths are coming back? Where's the story gonna go from there? I'm so out of the loop so excuse my lack of education, weebs.
Also, are these guys still around?
Mission Impossible 7: Oh good god, there's seven of these?!
Now this one I've heard the studio & the producers are grasping at straws towards continuing production for this flick. There's talks of having the actors in separate quarantined places, having the editors, lighting people, the set decorators & the catering in seperate departments only contacting via video conferencing, which means they can't hang around like before. They also want to arrange a live-in work type thing where everyone can't go back home for so many months so they'll have to be away from their loved ones because they're filming in places like Dubai & Tokyo. I cannot see any of this going by easily for the crew. Not to mention the price of movie tickets have skyrocketed because of the increased budgets of these mainstream movies. This will surely affect ticket sales & sales of snacks at the theater because that's how the theater chains make their money now. This is one that will be the deciding factor if movie theaters will continue to operate or close down for good. Movie theaters were already dying out like the dodo. This big budgeted Tom Cruise mid life crisis will affect cinema as we know it. Despite Hollywood offering new methods of continuing production while also covering the cost of maintaining health safety, I don't think low budget indies will end up doing the same. I don't think they can afford the safe alternatives such as Hollywood. What I see is Hollywood filming crowds using green screen & compositing. With lower budgeted flicks I can't see that happening, not as seamlessly. It's not about giving a middle finger to high budgeted Hollywood, but more like they can't afford to film in a way that won't drive up their costs. Now don't get me wrong, there will be that fringe minority that will ruin it for everyone because “We're patriots! The 'govment' don't want us to make our Christian movie!” I'm looking at you, Kirk Cameron with his bullshit Christmas movie. You know that stink will be seen publicly. These are the same morons who will call up their band of Twitter followers to storm a site like 'Rotten Tomatoes' to increase the audience rating because they couldn't accept the fact that they made an anti-film. I won't say names but there's an actress I'm friends with on Facebook that's currently filming a movie & aside from wearing PPE behind the scenes, the actors & actresses aren't wearing masks, despite the fact they're working side by side with each other behind the scenes. I kinda see this as a slow death for independent cinema. We already got less choice in who we want to fund, Disney ate up Fox & Marvel & Star Wars and it's clear the big studios will not listen to their audience.
Before I end this, there was news that Oscar season is doomed because of Covid & I'm here to tell you Oscar Season has always been doomed because of the studio system. The reason there are no 'diverse' nominees isn't because of the audience (Though that can account to half) but I'll have to agree with Charlie Kaufman. The studio system has changed since the death of not New Hollywood, but of this small gleam of hope for cinema that occurred in the late 2000's. I forgot who said this on Twitter, but this one gal hit it on the nose. I'm paraphrasing here but she said something along the lines of “In 2007 audiences embraced the ambiguous ending to 'No Country For Old Men', only to have that film sensibility be completely destroyed the following year with 'Iron Man'.”
Not saying people can't have big superhero movies or anything like that. It's just back in the new Hollywood era you had studios taking risks & chances at movies that didn't fit the typical convention of a studio picture, but at the same time in order to fund those unique projects they produced safe investments like your action movies, your disaster movies, making movies they knew would make money in the box office. Did you know Paramount Pictures hated the fact that the 'Friday The 13th' movies were making bank? Despite that, they still greenlit those movies because the box office sales would fund their prestige movies. This new sales model became basically “We just make the same movie over & over & over again until movies die out!”
That's how old Hollywood died out, because every other week the studios were making Musicals, westerns & gladiator movies for a short while. I can't see studios giving a damn about smaller films anymore, but then again I've been proven wrong sometimes.
I guess that does it for this installment for 'Blogbabble'. As of recently I've been a little blue so I really need to do something to get my mind out of this funk. I won't go into detail but I have not been happy or right in the mind for these past months. That's one of the big reasons why I haven't been able to do a new episode of 'Adventures in Pancakes'. I need to be in a very specific mood in order to have fun with that comic strip. I promise to get back into the groove of it all.
Tune in next time & I assure you there won't be a long ass lull between this entry & the upcoming one. Stay tuned.
Twitter: (It's now my own personal twitter joint) https://twitter.com/BlacktimeEPress
